NPEI Safety Poster Design Contest Underway!
June 15, 2020 BACK TO NEWS

Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI) is looking for help to promote positive messages about the importance of being safe around electricity.

With just a spark of creativity, students can design a poster that will help NPEI educate the public about electrical safety. The winning posters will receive a $100 prize along with an NPEI gift basket. They will be featured on the NPEI website and may be included in some of NPEI’s promotional and educational material.

All electrical systems have the potential to cause harm. Now that the sunny weather of summer is here, more kids will be spending time playing outside. Outdoor adventures are a lot of fun, but every year kids in Ontario are hurt because of an electrical injury. That is why we want their help to spread the message about safety!

Students in grades 1-8 who reside within the NPEI service territory will be eligible to submit a poster. One winner will be selected in each of the following three categories: grades 1-3, grades 4-6 and grades 7-8.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 10, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

The theme of each poster should centre around “Playing Safely Outside.” To help you come up with ideas for your poster, you can visit the NPEI website and watch our Lucky the Squirrel videos that promote electrical safety. As well, some positive safety messages that you could incorporate are:

  •          Never climb or play near overhead power lines
  •          Do not fly kites near power lines or during a thunderstorm
  •          Never go into an electric substation for any reason, if you need to retrieve a ball or toy please call NPEI
  •          Don’t use electrical equipment near a pool or pond
  •          Stay at least 10 metres away from downed power lines
  •          Never climb on or play around green transformer boxes
  •          Always call before you dig

All posters must adhere to the submission rules and guidelines to be accepted. All posters:

  •          Must be created and drawn by the student – no computer images or help from parents – and should communicate an electrical safety message
  •          Must be on size 8.5”X11” paper
