NPEI was certified for the provincial Green Button standard this summer, allowing its customers better access to their usage data through computers and smartphones and better manage their electricity usage. With the launch of our updated MyAccount Customer Portal, customers are now able to utilize the Green Button initiative.
NPEI implemented changes, improving its billing and online portal system for tracking electricity usage. Green Button is a data standard that provides energy customers with more choice in how they access their electricity and natural gas data. With a simple and secure process, customers will be able to securely download or connect (share) their energy usage data in an industry-standard format with registered third parties.
“We are very pleased that the work has been completed, many people put a lot of work into ensuring the completion, and we are very appreciative to our employees” says NPEI’s CEO and President Brian Wilkie. “Using this technology provides our customers the tools to take action, to make different decisions and to try to take control of managing their energy use.”
NPEI customers can access the Green Button option through NPEI’s upgraded MyAccount section. NPEI sent out an email recently to our customers advising that this new tool will be available to them. This will empower our customers to manage their energy use based on their own needs.
On November 1, 2021, the Ontario Ministry of Energy announced that electric and natural gas utilities across the province must provide their customers with access to Green Button data no later than November 1, 2023.
