  • Keep an eye on the time-of-use pricing schedule. Try and keep from running your larger appliances like dryers and ovens during “on-peak’ times.
  • If you run a ceiling fan at the same time as your air conditioner you can set your thermostat 2C higher and feel just as cool, cutting your energy use by as much as 10%.
  • Higher efficiency means more savings – upgrade your old air conditioner with an energy efficient model.
  • Use a programmable thermostat to automatically set the temperature higher when you’re sleeping or away.
  • Check your Air conditioner’s filter regularly and clean or replace it as needed to help your air conditioner run more efficiently.
  • Upgrade your indoor and outdoor lighting to energy-efficient LED bulbs. LEDs last up to 15% longer, produce no excess heat and are 75 to 90% more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs.
  • Draft proof your home to keep the hot air out and the cold air in. Add weather stripping to doors and windows to create a tight seal.
  • Use your outdoor grill or have meals that don’t require the oven to be on to reduce excess heat in your home and keep your air conditioner from working overtime.
  • Dry your clothes the old fashioned way on an outdoor clothesline.
  • Wash your clothes in cold water. There are detergents made specifically for cold water washing that will get your clothes clean while using less energy.
