  • Install a programmable thermostat and set different temperatures for different times of the day, for example, when you're sleeping.
  • Use weather-stripping or caulking to seal windows and doors to eliminate drafts
  • Clear the way of your vents to make sure you're getting all the heat possible into your space.
  • Replace your furnace filter to keep your furnace from working harder than it needs to.
  • Wrap your hot water pipes to keep them insulated.
  • Replace your old lightbulbs with LED bulbs. They use less energy and last longer than incandescent bulbs.
  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
  • Use lamps when possible to avoid using large overhead lights.
  • Wash your clothes in cold water and select the appropriate water level for your load of laundry.
  • Plan your trips to the fridge to keep the door closed as much as possible and avoid standing with the fridge door open.
  • Only run the dishwasher when it's completely full.
  • Try to use only one TV in the house as a time.
  • Keep computers and laptops plugged into a power bar that you can turn off when you aren't using them.
